Itineraries between history, art and landscapes

Are you planning a trip to Gorizia? Stay at the BW Gorizia Palace Hotel and discover the guide to the best itineraries in the area to discover many incredible destinations.

Gorizia is a perfect destination for those who love to explore nature and not only. The immense green areas, the rugged and snowy peaks, but also the hills that caress the landscape give life to a real spectacle, all to be discovered. Outdoor enthusiasts will fall in love with this beautiful city.

The Collio’s succession of rolling downs, dotted with small villages and vineyards, covers a total of 1,600 hectares. A DOC zone, it runs almost without a break from east to west, its gentle slopes presenting extensive south-facing areas that are ideal for premium-quality winemaking. Home to many great white wines, the Collio produces Pinot Grigio and Bianco, Tocai Friulano, Sauvignon and the renowned Collio Bianco, the DOC’s blended wine. The leading reds are Collio Rosso, Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon, and Merlot.

Tour of the Collio (28 km): Capriva-castello di Spessa-Cormòns-Brazzano-San Rocco-Monte Quarin-Subida- Russiz superiore-Capriva. Wine and Cherry Road (36.4 km): Gorizia-Mossa-Capriva-Cormòns-Giasbana-San Floriano-Oslavia-Piuma-Gorizia.

Only 13 km from Gorizia you will find a beautiful village regarded by the Venetian Republic as a bulwark against the frequent and furious Turkish invasions of Friuli. Built by the architects of Venice this fortified town features wide streets forming a regular grid. Take a walk along the ancient walls, planned by Leonardo Da Vinci and visit the wonderful Palazzo del Capitano inside the castle.

San Daniele is one of the ‘pearls’ of Friuli Venezia Giulia, known internationally for the unique taste of the original San Daniele ham that it has been producing for centuries - with the help of a unique micro-climate.
